Shifter started in Chamonix, from the everyday reality of local work and the limits of Facebook groups. We wanted a clearer, calmer way for people to find each other.
I am Jonas. I am French, but I spent years living around the world before Chamonix caught me for good. I have lived here for a few years now and work in hospitality myself, which is where I kept running into the same local problem.
A chalet gets a last-minute booking and needs two cleaners in two days. A restaurant is suddenly slammed for the weekend. The help exists, plenty of capable locals are free, but the only ways to reach them are messaging friends of friends or paying an agency. People miss each other constantly. Not because there is no one, but because there is no simple way to connect.
So I built Shifter, backed by Playblast, the company I run with my partner Orlando. I started with hospitality, because in the Valley that need is impossible to ignore. The goal stays simple and a little broader: help people find and offer local work, whether it is a shift, a one-off task, or just an extra pair of hands.
Our role is simple
Shifter connects people, then gets out of the way. We do not manage the work, handle contracts, or process payments, and we never take a commission on wages. Once two people are matched, everything happens directly between them.
