Working a season in Chamonix

The short version of what people ask us every autumn.

When do places hire for winter?
Most winter contracts are signed between September and November, for a season that runs from mid December to the end of April. A second, smaller wave comes in early December, when someone drops out a week before opening. Applying in the autumn is on time. Waiting until December means choosing from what is left.
Is housing included?
Sometimes, and it is the first thing to ask. Rents in the valley are high and staff housing is scarce, so a job with housing is worth a lot more than the salary alone suggests. The "With housing" filter above shows only those.
Do I need to speak French?
For kitchens, reception and most restaurants, yes, at least enough to get through a service. Chalets run by British tour operators and some bars work in English. Every ad says what it needs, and it is shown exactly as the employer wrote it, never translated.
What kind of contract is it?
Usually a contrat saisonnier: a fixed term contract that ends with the season, with the normal protections of an employee in France. One-off missions, an evening or a weekend, work differently, and that is what the Shifter app is for.Find extra shifts with Shifter
